Here at the Maire Curtis Bespoke Embroidery studio we have been busy creating a wonderful new project for a Craft Sanctuary “Add a Little Sparkle” workshop in February 2017.
Traditionally, garments embroidered with Goldwork and Irish Lace were reserved for royalty and envied around the world.
In the luxury setting of Carnage Hall Elizabethan manor in Cheshire, you will learn the intricacies of Goldwork, introduced to the rare technique of Irish Lace Embroidery and complete a glittering cross stitch butterfly all using some of the latest stunning metallic threads from DMC and Madeira.
On day one and two you can have great fun with the wonderful dragonfly project created by Maire especially for this workshop.
You will learn an extensive range of goldwork skills including couching of special goldwork wires and threads, padded satin stitch, appliqué of gold leather and discover the unique application of the “sinking” technique for a professional finish.
Using metal and metallic threads does require slightly different techniques and you will learn all the tricks of the trade to make embroidering with these wonderful threads just as easy as stranded cotton.
No more “Oh no not metallic thread” comments. After this course you will be racing off to the haberdasher to add to your stash!
There will also be a range of specially created metallic thread and goldwork packs which will be available for purchase during the weekend.
On day two there is also a cross stitch workshop in the afternoon.
With all kits, food and accommodation included in the ticket price, take this opportunity to learn a new skill, meet like minded people and most importantly, stitch!
Home to the world renowned Peak District, Cheshire is a captivating county boasting unspoiled sweeping landscapes dotted with quaint market towns and villages.
Nestled in the heart of the Dane Valley, the charming Cranage Hall Elizabethan manor is the perfect setting in which to learn the regal techniques of Goldwork.
Originally built in 1829, the multiple award-winning 4 star hotel effortlessly combines the essence of grandeur with stylish and modern amenities.
Locally sourced and freshly prepared meals await you for breakfast, lunch and dinner with unlimited tea, coffee and snacks available to keep you satisfied throughout the day.
Outside you can wander through 20 acres of private gardens before popping indoors to enjoy the heated swimming pool, sauna, spa or gym.
Alternatively, cosy up next to the roaring fire and just stitch!
