A Legacy of Needle and Thread

Maire Curtis Lakeland Studio was born from a lifelong passion for needle and fibre arts.
From a young age, Maire learned her skills alongside her mother, a tailor, immersing herself in the intricate world of sewing and embroidery.
Over later years, these skills were honed with training from internationally acclaimed embroidery schools.
This early foundation blossomed into a lifelong dedication to preserving and advancing traditional crafts, blending them with contemporary design to create pieces that are both timeless and innovative.

Silk Flowers

A natural embroidery companion

Rooted in the ancient artistry of Asia, silk and fabric flower making has a pedigree dating back over a thousand years.
Milliners and dressmakers during the reign of Queen Victoria can be seen to extensively feature fabric flowers.
Dimensional embellishment within recent fashion trends is driving a modern interpretation.
These ancient techniques are still the focus of our Atelier, alongside innovation to accommodate fashion requirements.

Inspiration and Values

Inspired by nature and tradition, we aim to source most of our materials from the UK when possible.
We supply a worldwide clientele, designing and embellishing evening and wedding gowns, working on theatrical costume and much more.

Living in the stunning Cumbrian Lake District, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, provides a wealth of design inspiration.

The UK has a rich history of needle craft and skilled conservators all over the country have managed to preserve some fantastic pieces, giving great insight into techniques and designs of our ancestors.

Quality is our primary objective.

Regardless of the application we demand only the highest grade materials and minute attention to detail, so with this in mind, materials are carefully sourced from the best manufacturers.
